Latest Changes in Optics: Viz and Dex Explained
All users of the Optics app are familiar with the Optics macro. The Optics app comprises more features than just the Optics macro, for example the style guide feature. Now, the Optics macro is called Viz and the rename comes with something new: Dex, a powerful storytelling and presentation macro that joins the Optics app.
This marks a major step forward for Optics, which now includes two powerful macros designed to help teams create clearer, more impactful content inside Confluence. One for formatting, one for storytelling, and a new name to make that distinction clear.
Why We Renamed the Optics Macro
When Optics first launched, it included just one macro — a flexible toolkit of modules for formatting and design. But now, with Dex joining the product, the app has grown into something more. Renaming the original macro to Viz helps clarify its focus — visual formatting and design — while distinguishing it from the broader Optics app and the newly introduced Dex macro.
What Optics Includes Today (and How App Editions Work)
Optics is now a complete content toolkit for Confluence, combining layout, design, and storytelling in one app.

Choosing the Right Edition
Optics is available in two editions, so you can pick the setup you need.
The Standard edition includes everything from Viz — all the formatting and design tools to create beautiful, structured Confluence pages. It also comes with the Style Guide, which lets you apply your brand colors once and ensures every element automatically follows your company’s visual style.
The Advanced edition gives you even more, combining Viz with Dex and its prebuilt, beautifully styled blocks — designed to stack vertically like a landing page for easy scrolling, or transform into full-screen presentation mode with a single click.
You can see a full feature breakdown in the image below, or check out our Atlassian Marketplace listing for all the details.

Choose the edition that fits your workflow, and feel free to reach out if you’d like a demo or help deciding what’s right for your team.
What’s new when editing pages
Next time you edit a page in Confluence, you’ll now look for Viz when inserting the macro. The macro label in the editor will also display Viz instead of Optics.

From Formatting Modules to Stories — All in One App
Whether you're building a structured Confluence page, rolling out a strategy, or preparing a full company presentation, Optics gives you everything you need to communicate clearly, consistently, and beautifully — right where your team already works.
