Introducing Trophies: A New Way to Recognize Contributions in Cosmos

Today, we're excited to introduce Trophies, a new feature in Cosmos. It rewards people for taking part in your intranet and makes it easy for colleagues to thank each other for great work.

Trophies works in two ways:

  • Points reward the everyday activities that keep an intranet alive, from completing a profile to commenting on company news.

  • Awards let employees thank a colleague for a meaningful contribution, with a short message that shows up where others can see it.

Admins decide which activities earn Points, which Awards exist and how much each is worth, so Trophies fits the way your company works.

Appreciation shouldn't depend on who speaks up

Great work happens every day, and a lot of it never shows up in a report:

  • Helping a colleague polish an important presentation.

  • Picking up a teammate's tasks while they're out sick.

  • Leaving a clear handover before time off.

  • Jumping in on a customer issue after hours.

Most companies already have ways to say thanks, from a box of chocolates or a quick chat message to a shout-out at the all-hands. But every team does it differently, and not everyone feels comfortable praising someone in front of the whole company. So a lot of appreciation stays private, or never happens at all.

Trophies gives recognition a simple, consistent place in Cosmos. It doesn't wait for the annual review, and it doesn't only flow from managers down: anyone can thank anyone, in a few clicks.

Points: reward the activity that keeps your intranet alive

An intranet only works when people use it. Points give employees a reason to explore Cosmos and contribute, and you decide exactly what they reward.

  • Getting Started milestones reward first steps, once per person, like completing a profile, writing a first comment or subscribing to news channels.

  • Earning Rules reward ongoing contributions, like publishing pages, writing and commenting on blog posts, and creating or registering for events.

You set how many Points each activity earns and, for Earning Rules, how often it can be rewarded per day, week or month. That keeps the focus on genuine participation rather than on collecting Points.

Awards: recognition that gets seen

Points capture activity, but some of the most valuable contributions can't be counted. That's what Awards are for.

Giving one is quick: open a colleague's profile, choose an Award, write a short note about what they did, and send it. Your colleague receives the Award's Points, and the recognition appears on their profile and, through the Recent Awards module, on your Cosmos dashboard. A thank-you that might have stayed in a private chat can now reach the whole company.

Admins create the Awards that fit your culture, each with its own name, icon, description and Points value. They also decide how many Awards each person can give per day, week or month, and whether senders earn Points too.

Across Points and Awards, the Admin Overview shows who has earned what, along with each person's reward history. Employees can follow their own activity and recognition on their profile.

Get started in three steps

Trophies is available to all Cosmos customers at no extra cost.

  1. Update Cosmos. Trophies requires Cosmos 5.0.0 or later. If your site runs an older version, an admin needs to install the update manually so all Earning Rules work correctly.

  2. Switch on Trophies. A Cosmos admin enables the feature and picks the Getting Started milestones, Earning Rules and Awards you want to use.

  3. Make recognition visible. Add the Recent Awards module to your Cosmos dashboard, so everyone sees the thank-yous as they come in.

The Trophies documentation walks through every setting. Questions along the way? Our team is happy to help via the support portal.

What's next

We're already exploring what Points could turn into, like redeeming them for company merch in Shoppie, our shop app for Jira Service Management. Have ideas for how recognition should work in your company? Write to us at contact@caelor.com.

Saying thank you is one of the most human things we do at work. With Trophies, it finally has a place in Confluence. That's what we mean when we say we're making Atlassian work like people do.
